A quest for depth - Robocop Mask

A quest for depth - Robocop Mask

For this series I explored a new mask silhouette; the Robocop Mask. Iā€™m intrigued by branding and consumerism and how brands use punchlines to create context and worlds for customers. I had been looking for ways to incorporate punchlines and centences and the robocop mask with the iconic eye piece in the mask provided space to use these texts in my work.

For this series I made use of collage backgrounds to give the mask a base and not have them float like my other masks. I used the background of posters from the streets to build the backgrounds from. The colors and structures found on these backsides are more subtle and have the most beautifull patina.

For the mouthpieces I experimented with laserengraving images directly into the paper. Making image and material one by burning the image into the paper. The results are stunning. It looks like parchement from ancient cities.
